I grew up in the 50's and for some reason it seems like yesterday and a million years ago at the same time. I never really thought about getting old when I was young. I would see older people but never let it enter my mind that would happen to me one day. When I turned 40 it was depressing as it seemed so much older than saying you were in your 30's.When I hit 60 this past March it felt like there had to be a way to turn back the clock. Some way to go back to the simpler times of the 50's and 60's where you did not feel like your time was winding down. You had time for everything and life was full of possibilites.
So it took 65 cents to smack me in the face of how old I really was. My husband and I were out on errands and we stopped at White Castle for some lunch.I ran in to get them and we ate in the car and no big deal. I had the receipt in my purse and when I got home I took it out and looked at it for some reason instead of throwing it away, and then there it was! 6 White Castle 3.66, 1 fry 1.39, 2 Cokes 2.98, minus SENIOR DISCOUNT 65 CENTS!!!!!!! How can this be I told myself, I did not ask for a senior discount, I have never applied for a senior discout anywhere. I never thought of myself as a senior. But there it was, this young sales clerk looked at me and thought SENIOR! So there it is I am offically old, no more kidding myself, time to apply everywhere for that 10% senior discount.
But I still do not know how this happens so fast, just sneaks up on you, and all it takes is 65 cents!!!!!
